I've successfully kept Neon and Glowlight tetras with a Betta, really depends on the Bettas temperament though. I also have a Honeycomb Driftwood Catfish in with Henry, he keeps himself pretty much to himself, no issues that I have seen.
I learnt this one the hard way. Any plants from within the EU should be OK (Tropica is a good example), anything from out side the EU is a nono as they have to be treated under EU law.
Always ask at your LFS and if they can't answer the question then don't buy.

yes, a very steep learning curve at that. Happy that my little crew seem to be enjoying life in there new home though, I never realised that fish had personalities.
