just added a 1/2 cup in a mesh bag and put the crushed coral in the back of the filter. This will gradually raise the ph and help to maintain it?

i did a fish in cycle and tank is about 5 weeks old, it cycled a week ago. i test daily and have had 0 amm., nitrites for 7 straight days now. nitrates are about 20. my public water report states a hardness of 80 which translates to about 4.5 degrees. any ideas or suggestions?

ok i'll check it again tomorrow to make sure. if it is still ok by saturday i will get a few more fish to put in. slowly stock the tank. i wanted to get angels and clown loaches. which would you recommend first? is one hardier than the other? thanks again.

Yesterday my nitrties had dropped from 1.0 to .5 and today the nitrites were at 0, ammonia was 0 and nitrates were around 20. It took 27 days for my fish in cycle to complete. The only question i have is my ph is around 6.4, a little lower than i would like. I am going to do a 30% water change...

if there is no bacteria in the substrate why does everyone say to get some of it from an established tank when starting up a new tank.??????
