Love the re-scape. As good as pots are as ornaments and as a great substrate for bacteria, they make tanks look unnatural to be honest.

If you don't want play sand, then pool filter sand is probably the next most economnical option. Makes a great substrate IMO

I came across a list of safe and unsafe woods a while back, will see if I can find it for you. There were very few types of wood that were safe for aquariums, and many that leeched toxins into the water. So until you can confirm the type and safety of the wood, I wouldn't waste time treating it.

Agreed. Wood is too porous to be soaking in bleach or vinegar. Just rinse it and scrub it for a day using boiling water. Then soak it in an aquarium or wheely bin until it's water logged and tannins have stopped leaching, changing the water once week. This should eliminate any nasties in or on...

Love the scrubber! Please keep us updated with the affect this has on your nitrates :) You could get the best of both worlds by limiting the flow rate and filling some of that container with de-nitrate media.. a hybrid nitrate scrubreactor!

I've had guppies in my tank for about a month and all the females have looked ready to drop for the last few weeks. Will they ever give birth at room temperature? I can't raise the temperature as my axolotls don't like heat but I'm worried that the extended pregnancy might be stressful to the fish
