how would you propagate Algae in a 'sump' tank for FW? and how would you keep it out of the display tank?

When do water changes start? My tank has been set up for about 5 weeks now. I did seed it with a sponge from an established tank. watched and levels are indicating a completed cycle. I also have a good break out of brown algae.. Im ready to do water changes when is a good time to start????

Hmmm interesting because I figured I had too much running the coralife 98watt, (and i think they are 10000k?) It is a fixture I got when I was planning on going salt water. Should I use a different fixture and bulbs? Thanks for the advice!
