I recently purchased a dozen Eirmotus Octozona. They have a few common names - (8 stripe barb -8 banded barb - 8 banded false barb and probably more). I'd never seen them before. Lovely wee fish but fairly shy. Four of five of them are regularly out and about now. Most of my tanks are jungles...
Been a while since I entered one of these competitions. For 2 or 3 years I've just been doing the bare minimum on my tanks but I seem to have regained my enthusiasm again.
This picture is an "end on" pic of one of six tanks in a rack. I had to put them in length-ways so I could fit them all on...
What size of tank do you have them in and are they on their own? I have corries in most of my tanks and I see the odd fry that has managed to survive, but most inevitably get eaten. I'm not trying to breed them but I have a couple of spare tanks atm and it might be interesting to try this.
Guppies and rams are unlikely to both thrive as they have much different requirements. All the other fish you mentioned prefer softer water , except for guppies.
I think the easiest route would be to leave the snails and be careful feeding.
Of course if your snails don't get much to eat, your shrimp won't either unless you can think of creative ways of feeding them.
I love beachcombing for wood and other stuff for my tanks. Never thought of taking a jigsaw with me. I often find big logs that are far too big for my needs.
