🐠 TOTM VOTE NOW: September 2025 Tank of the Month Contest (16 US gallons and smaller)

Here’s my five-month old 10-gallon. Home to five ember tetras, two cory catfish, three assassin snails, upwards of fifteen assorted neocardina, and plenty of bladder snails. Moderately planted with Amazon Swords, Water Wisteria, Ludwigia repens, hornwort, and some others ((Rotala perhaps)...

    Upgrade

If I upgrade from a fully cycled 10-gallon to a 20 or 29 gallon by using all the same substrate/plants/filter media, can I expect (or at least hope) that the new tank is likewise cycled — or close to it, anyway?

    Assasins

Thanks for all the information on “top or topless.” Now, onto the next newbie question: in the tank I (rescued/inherited/whatever) there are three assasin snails, put in presumably to keep the bladder snail population in check. However, they seem more interested in hanging on to each other...

    Top or Topless

Actually I am looking into upgrading to a 20 long but find few lid options. What do you have?

    Top or Topless

I rescued a 10 gallon tank, and the cory came with it and is pretty much a pale as in the picture. In fact there are two of them, but I have never found anything similar for sale — they are very shy, usually hang out in the back corner of the tank.

    Top or Topless

I am new to the hobby and am wondering about lids. What (if any) are the avantages to an aquarium with no lid. Disadvantages (other than the obvious: fish can jump out)? Also, can anyone identify the kind of cory I have (see photo).

🐠 TOTM VOTE NOW: June 2025 Tank of the Month Contest (16 US gallons and smaller)

Here’s my first ever tank — a 10 gallon that I basically rescued a couple months ago. It was already set up with gravel substrate (personally, I’d have chosen something darker). It also came with 7 zebra danios, some neocardina shrimp, a whole bunch of bladder snails, and the hornwort. I have...
