Is It Possible To Have Too Much Wattage On A Heater?

In one of my tanks I use a 50 watt controller I picked up from a LFS, it's so old I can't read the brand I'm afraid. I use it to switch a 240v relay in a control panel in the stand, the relay switches the heaters, In actual fact it switches a 4 way trailing socket and the heaters are plugged...

Is It Possible To Have Too Much Wattage On A Heater?

Total wpg cause fluctuating temperature due to rapid heat up, be it via 1, 2 or 10 heaters. But a pair of 100w would be better than 1 200w especially if controlled from a common stat, independent stats would lead to a single heater carrying 90% of the duty due to the impossibility of setting two...

Higher wattage also causes less stability over time. It's hysteresis if you want to google it.

    Green Brillow Pad As Media?

I buy huge pond filter pads for pence and cut to fit my tank filters when required, if you have access to a hot wire that's the easiest way, but a sharp knife and scissors work very well too. I never buy branded pads, waste of cash. Pond filters come in loads of grades too so you can choose what...

Snails - How Long To Quarantine New Plants?

I bleach mine in a 19:1 solution for 90 seconds then straight into a bowl of clean water for a few minutes as I gently agitate the water, then into yet more clean water for half hour then straight into tank. Never had an issue, be it snails, fish health or plant death.

Sounds like a good result then. I will post pictures of my repair so others can consider doing the same if they wish. A new tank wasn't an option I am a DIY kinda guy. I finaly decided to order two lengths of glass 10mm x 50 x 1747 and add them front and back the full length of the tank just...

    Redtail Catfish Tail Color

I had a red tail in an 11' x 3' x 2'6" tall tank some years ago, terrible idea! 11 feet is simply far too small for a red tail cat, they need 25' x 8' as a minimum IMHO. such a vast animal! And he eat more food than you would belive, £10 a day some days. All frozen irradiated food. His tail was...

    Rescued Abandoned Chicken

I have 5 hens, 3 roadies and 2 bantams. Not like people think at all, cracking personalities. And food wise they love yogurt, garlic bread, and meal worms as treats, I use those things to coax them into their coop after they have been free in the garden and I want to put them away. Greedy...

    Jewel 400 Brace Bars.

It's a newer tank but the design is flawed, no way that was going to last! I have built a few tanks over the years, as long as everything is clinically clean it's a simple process, I had planned to add glass braces my self but a helpful member sent me a link to a place that is so cheap I may...

    Wiring New Ballast

Pictures are a bit small to view on my iphone, but if they are the wrong rating the chances are they simply won't work, if they are 'close' they will but won't last long. I'm an industrial sparky of 22 years so have wired the odd one lol. If you have no joy reply and I'll look at them on my...

    Jewel 400 Brace Bars.

Hi all, I'll start by saying I'm a new member, or at least first post. I've been keeping fish for many years and have had all sorts of set ups from a 24x12x18 trop set up, to a 132x36x30 trop set up in 32mm plate glass, wish I still had it but heating 500 gallons of water wasn't getting any...
