    Ram gill growth

Thanks but unfortunately I lost her last night. Will act quicker next time if I see signs of this in any other fish. It was coming out of the gill FYI.

    Ram gill growth

Hi, One of my Ram's hasn't been eating for a few days and is mostly spending time on the bottom. This morning she has this white growth from her gill - photo attached. It wasn't there yesterday. What is it? How would I treat her? Or am I likely too late? I don't have a quarantine tank...

    Lighting upgrade or Co2 Kit?

Thanks! I forgot to say I need to keep a lid on my aquarium - I'm not sure if those lights you mention would work with the Juwel lid? I will have Aqua Soil capped with sand and will plant pretty heavily from the start with some fast growing stems etc.

    Exposed Monte Carlo roots

Thanks. I keep pushing the roots down...and the one next to it pops up....and repeat and repeat! I'll let nature take its course and see what happens.

    Lighting upgrade or Co2 Kit?

Hi all, thoughts/wisdom/experience welcome! I've bought a Juwel Lido 200 secondhand which comes with the standard Multilux light. My main aim (other than general plant health etc.) is to get a decent Monte Carlo carpet. The Lido is around 60cm tall. To that end I was planning to buy my first...

New tank, new setup - keep sand or replace?

Thanks, that's good info and that was what I was worried about. The other bonus is that this means I only have to transfer the fish directly from the old tank to the new tank, without having to transfer them to a container while I move the substrate across. I'm planning to use the old filter as...

New tank, new setup - keep sand or replace?

I've already got the Tropica soil so I'll stick with it. I've "cycled" it in a tub for a few weeks, so shouldn't cause ammonia spikes.

    Exposed Monte Carlo roots

Hi, First of all, ignore the algae in the photo - this is a 6 week old tank and I'm getting to grips with it gradually! The substrate was too high at the front of the tank, so today I decided to dig about 2cm along the edge of the tank. As expected I uprooted some of the Monte Carlo and...

New tank, new setup - keep sand or replace?

Thanks @vince82, yes I'd already decided on the mesh bag method - I started a nano tank a few months ago with pure tropica soil, no cap or bags....and it was a total nightmare, just a tank full of mud!! Capped it with sand/gravel mix which has worked well, but it's black sand/gravel so the...

New tank, new setup - keep sand or replace?

It's probably been in the tank for 10 years at this point

New tank, new setup - keep sand or replace?

My concern is purely aesthetic - I don't want to end up with the gunk from e.g old rotten roots etc, lying on top of the sand once it's all got mixed up transferring from the old tank to the new tank.

New tank, new setup - keep sand or replace?

I'm getting a new 200l aquarium to replace my existing 180l. The old tank has been setup for years, with sand only substrate, a few plants with root tabs, no soil etc. The new tank will have aquasoil capped with sand and be heavily planted. I was thinking of re-using the old sand because a)...

Why are my Amano shrimp not moving, despite perfect water parameters?

Update - as soon as I decided to move them yesterday, of course (after 3 days almost motionless), they started moving around and eating! They're now alternating periods of grazing with periods of rest - not as active as the shrimp in my other tank, but certainly looking much better than they...
