If your adding mature media, and if its been kept wet and fed during transport etc, it will work straight away. To take ammonia from 4-5 to 0 ppm i would say 12 hours ish.

Hmm ok well for now ill just have to do more regular water changes, its not going to cost that much to get bargain bottled water, and i dont have a huge tank. but Ill keep an eye on things :)

Hi does anyone know if bottled mineral water still contains chlorine and still need to dechlorinate? My tap water has like 40 ppm of nitrate so wanna use bottles :) thanks Hmm just been reading bottled water isnt that good for fish so i guess this option is out.

Yeah my nitrates have increased. My concern was that i didnt see much of a nitrite spike as mention in these cycles it seems just to be turning into nitrate so i guess the cycle is there :) I shall keep it going for a bit longer while i look into what fish to get Thanks
