    Crazy Oscars

you're right that tank is plenty big enough, you could try just leaving the tank lights off for a few days and see if that settles your oscar down. I would leave the tank totally untouched for about 4-5 days, no food, water changes, lights. Just my opinion, use it or dont . :D

    Crazy Oscars

My oscar used to jump and cut its head up all the time. Short term solution was to wrap the cross bars of the tank in cling wrap - about 30 layers, im not actually sure on the number of layers but enough to give any sharp bits on the top a nice thick padded layer. Long term solution was to get...

    120 Gallon Stocking And Filter

As freddyk said to me ages ago get a pair of oscars and some silver dollars or tinfoil barbs, should be ok with a pleco, i've had this combo in a 5ft for about 18months, the oscars are large like 26cm+ and the dollars give plenty of activity, and the plec shows up everynow and again always...

    were to drill

Hi im converting to a sw tank and am going to have a sump for my 3ft tank. How big of a sump should i get? I've read that once you get live rock setup that youre supposed to remove all biological filtration, which would mean all the bio balls and stuff in the sump right? So whats the point of...

    Hatching baby brine shrimps guide

Just a comment on deshelling cysts, can take as little as 2-3 mins, One major advantage is if desired the deshelled cysts can be fed directly to the fish larvae without hatching. This ensures that ALL the nutrients will be consumed by the fish and not the shrimp. Though only really practical on...

    Anyone kept barramundi?

that must be apretty impressive fish, ive only seen babies over here which go for around $200 aus. I may be getting a juvenile barramundi and was hoping for any advice for or against my plans; I was going to grow him up to about 5- 6 inches in fresh before slowly increasing salinity to approx...

    oscars and high nitrate

hey guys, My 5 ft 150 gallon is swimming in nitrates ~80 ppm, the other readings are zero and pH is 6.8 Why is my tank so high in nitrates, my tap water has almost zero nitrate, i do plenty of water changes one sometimes two 35% per week. The tank has two oscars and a pleco plus two silver...

    Red Tiger Oscars

if the silver dollars are a similar size to the o´s i would just keep them with the silver dollars. I keep my two o´s (11 in and 9 inch) with some silver dollars and a pleco in a 150 gal tank and the oscars soon learnt that the silver dollars were tuff and hard to catch so they don't bother...

    red oscar

yeah mine had the same thing sort of worried me a bit too. I think it is just when they scrounge around in the gravel for food they aggravate their lip. I switched to floating food over sinking and the problem went away???

    starting a new tank

i'd say two males max. plus a big harem of females (probably 4 for the dominant male and 2-3 for the less dominant) . i don't think the bala is a great idea because they are too big and active, and like to be kept in a group. Also BGK's get pretty big and may find the smaller female apistos a...
