Over the past week or so I have noticed that on my gravel, plants and rocks there is rust colored build up present. I have no clue what it is, what it is from or if its normal or good. If anyone has had the same issue or could help me that would be great.

Well it depends what kind of filter you have. If you have a filter that hangs on the back of the tank, technically you dont really need gravel, its just for show. But the "idiots" at the lfs's say about 1 pound per gallon which is way too much. Enough gravel to cover 1/4 to a 1/2 inch does well.
