Just to update for anyone with similar concerns... He is back to his old self now and has developed a healthy appetite, though only for expensive livefood and livefood in jelly - none of your pellets thank you! He shoots to the top of the tank for food when someone goes near which is very cute.

Well, I was meaning to ask about flaring - he looks at the mirror but mostly just ignores it. He takes an interest sometimes, but no actual flaring. Should this be a cause of worry? Anyone know possibly why? (btw Cake, he is a few weeks new)

My betta has just had an infection of whitespot, and all the spots seem to be gone. However, he now spends most of the time sitting on the bottom of the tank, except when I push back the lid to put in some food (well, he would, wouldn't he). Has this happened to anyone, and any suggestions?

My two female guppy (one of who delivered about 15 babies about 10 days ago) have both developed white areas around their heads and are now losing colour on their flanks. It looks like it could be a fungus but is difficult to tell exactly. The pH (just over 7), nitrite and ammonia (both zero)...

If you have an established tank, is it possible to get some new gravel, put that in a mesh bag, and leave it in there for a week or so, then use that gravel for a new tank? Presumably the bacteria would form on the gravel over time, and give the new tank a helping hand.

I was thinking about getting a Siamese fighting fish - been lokking up about them but some sources say that only snails, shrimp etc can be kept with them, and some say they are community fish! At the moment I only have a few tetra and corys (cycling the tank) but in the future, would they be ok...

I have just started up a 45 litre tank, and am going to get a few guppies to begin with, but I read somewhere that the males fought when there were no females, and bred like mad when the writer introduced some. Is this a problem with guppies, or do you reckon that there were just too many...

Hmmmm....polystyrene....we tried two towels underneath, and it still made the noise. Maybe polystyrene would work, if it was thick enough.
