Well the discus fish are completely happy and chose to spawn in non-dechlorinated tap water. There is no excess slime-coat and all fish are eating. Same thing with my koi; they had offspring.
I am looking to get some Water smartweed (Persicaria Amphibian) for the koi pond however the RHS explains that the plant has spikes. Are these spikes something that koi could injure themselves on?
Would be interesting to hear from someone who has experience with this plant as to how appropriate...
My advice for successful discus keeping is to keep them in a bare bottom tank as they require clean water. Do not feed them freeze dried bloodworm as they more often than not end up upsetting their digestive system.
Keep them in water that is 31 degrees C or higher as they can be prone to...
Thanks for all of your input. Some more water soldiers have arrived. I have put 25ml of bleach in a 10 litre bucket; so vastly less bleach and submerged them for 60 seconds. I have then rinsed all of the bleach water off under the tap. I’m going to leave the plants in a bucket of tap water for...
I'm not sure. They were very healthy when I opened the box that they arrived in with lots of reds and greens. After bleaching the leaves started going translucent and brownish.
I have struggled to adapt to disinfecting with bleach ever since virtually all forms of pond disinfectant, atleast in...
I used Hospec thin bleach which has a 2.5% concentration of sodium hypochlorite. Thin bleach is a type of bleach that doesn't contain a gelling agent like thick bleach would which is used to make the bleach stick longer to surfaces. I obviously don't want it sticking to the plants so I have thin...
I recently bought some water soldier plants for my pond. I attempted to disinfect them by placing 100ml of thin bleach in 10 litres of water. I submerged them in for around 5 minutes. They are now visibly dying.
I have obviously got the dose wrong.
What dose should I use?
The container is still on its way in the post.
This is how the fish looks now: https://www.veed.io/view/6a6d410e-8edb-4f23-a7ac-5969be1cdfc2?panel=share
I think it is dying of dropsy caused by old age. I think there is a haemorrhaging starting to appear on its base. I will still go ahead with...
Ok great. Do you think a plastic storage container like this would be ok for holding salt water?: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155556819464
I may keep it in the container to observe as it currently keeps hiding underneath dense pond foliage.
