Thanks guys :) the tank has now been cycling for over 8 weeks; ammonia and nitrites are showing 0, and nitrates 10.  This is the same as when I went away a week ago.

Don't feel too glum about it, you're doing the right thing for your fish.  Anyway if you're anything like me, you'll need the full cycling time to plan your stock 75g gives you lots of options, I bet this tank is going to be stunning.   Also, freshwater fish can be colourful too!  Google some...

Possibly.  The Oscar is the one I remember :( like the RD in this thread, it looked so unhappy in that tiny space.

  Ugh, don't.  I remember there was one on Ebay around Christmas time - stocking was something like an oscar, a bala and a common pleco in a 15gal.  Sad.

  That's what I was wondering, whether it had already been stunted :( poor thing.

I'm in Lancashire; sadly I don't have the space for the kind of set up this fish would need.  Is it still a juvenile?

Dwarf puffers?  The thread on here says a single puffer can be kept in as little as 3 gallons, if you're manic about water changes.
