Not a bad idea! I have one baby who is larger than the others, he's my tester. I might plop him in there since I know hes too big to get eaten. While I don't have too many plants, there are a few places to hide. If he lasts a day I'm probably good!
I put a little one in the big tank just to see if it would be alright. The big ones immediately tried to chase it around. I figured that would happen with any fish taht is smaller than them - so even after two months they'd be hunted.
The little one kept getting away, but I'd hate to stress...
My fish gave birth on April 20th, and the babies are growing quickly! There are three full grown guppies in the 20 gallon tank, and maybe 10-15 fry.
I know the official judgement of when to let fry go is when they reach a certain size. I'm not great at measuring by eye sight - so I wanted to...
I don't believe its the pecking order. I have 2 males and 2 female guppies and the littler male just doesn't get much action with the ladies but hes still active. Plus you seem to have a pretty good male to female ratio.
It seems like it has to be something with the water quality - are your...
Not as of this morning. However, I do have her in the main tank since I have week olds in the nursery and I don't want her to eat them. Shey may have had a few last night and ate them, but she's still pretty big!
Check out this picture I just took of my guppy Lemon Drop's womb! The babies are getting so close, you can clearly see their little eyes!
Lemon Drop is about to drop!
Yeah! I can't wait to go - probably sometime in the next week. I'm bogged down right now, but I reallllly want to at least get it started cycling.
I'm thinking I'm probably going to make a planted tank, so I have a bit more research to do - so going to Aquarium Adventure will probably be smart...
That actually doesn't seem too much once you think about it. I guess I could fit like four people in that area and we wouldn't fall through the floor.
I guess plus the stand, filters, gravel, fish, ect... Might add up?
Puts it into perspective but I'm still a bit skeptical
Hello all!
I just bought a 55 gallon fish tank, time to expand!
I'm looking forward to filling it up and getting it cycling, but I'm worried that it might be too heavy for the floors.

I'm just concerned because I'm renting the house...
oh awesome! I got my tank on craigslist, believe it or not. You can find some crazy deals on there. The new 55 gallon came with two filters and a stand and was only $50. Had to clean it pretty well but definitely didn't break the bank if thats your hold up.
I have been going to Jack's Pets...
I think you'd be fine without the salt.
When two of my dalmatian mollies got sick I added some salt which really helped them heal. If they end up not doing too well you can just add a little, it shouldn't affect the other fish too much anyway.
I just got a brand new 55 gallon tank today!! I'm THRILLED! Will be keeping the smaller 20 gal for the fry and other guppy, and of course give some away. It's going to take a bit for the new tank to cycle anyway! Now I have the excitement of babies and a new tank to stock!
But yes, I...
They seem to be doing fine with the powdered blood worms. I'm keeping my eye on craigslist for cheap new fishtanks.
I can't imagine letting little ones face the big guys, but maybe I'll get a little less emotional when I start getting too many babies to deal with!
It seems like they're growing so fast! Before they had the shape of a tadpole and within a few days they're already starting to look like little fish!
The other fish are trying pretty hard to get to the fry though. I might have to find an entirely separate tank for the babies until they're...
I'm not experienced enough to know whether she is close enough or not but trust your instinct. If she looks like she's about to pop, go ahead and keep her in there. A few days ago I put my pregnant guppy in isolation when I thought she was close, she had to stay in there for about two or three...
