I don't really do this with my gravel, it's all about the same depth for my live plant roots. But it does make sense that solid waste would more likely be found at the front of the tank if you sloped your gravel.
hi everybody i am pretty new to this website but not to keeping fish. i have had 3 years experience with fish.
But recently i got a Senegal Bichir, and i added him into my tank. So its been about 6 months and he has only grown about half an inch, to where he is now about 3 1/2 inches long...
Did you check your water chemistry, and then could it just be your fish store? Also are you giving the fish enough time to get comfortable with your water temperature and chemistry, before placing them in your tank? Where do you get your fish?
My tank is full of live plants and they do help control the chemistry of the water. There should be enough gravel or whatever material in your tank, so that you can bury the roots of the plants. When vacuuming I just lightly vacuum the top of the gravel over the roots.
I had a rather serious run in with ich,and I used medication called coppersafe ( it can be found at most fish stores), and all of my fish made it through this. Even my clown loach that I have been told are very sensitive to medication.
