You know those little containers that you get camera film in !?! well if you make some holes (big enough for snails to get in), then fill it with salad leaves or peas, leave it overnight and take it out in the morning, it will be full of the little buggers and you can get them out in one go...

If you do want to go down the route of gettign a bottom feeder my clown loach does a marvellous job (like a little hoover) :D

My fishies love shelled peas, they are also supposed to be good for their digestion, just don't give them too many :sick:
