I vacuum weekly without removing them and once every month or two ill take them out when i do. The times when i do take them out quite a bit of crap will come up the vacuum where the decorations were but i havent had a problem with nitrates

Goal is supposed to be 5-10x an hour meaning if its ten gallon youd want a 50-10gph flow. My overstocked african cichlid tank is 46 gal and has 306gph (fluval 306) and it seems to be doin alright so far
