hi there. what is wrong with the carbon sponge? i also have this filter system with 4 sponges inside..im unsure how often to clean the sponges or whether i have to replace them and how often??

i have had a juwel rekord 800 tank for some time now and i was wondering if the 4 sponges inside the filter box need replacing regularly?? i have just been cleaning them myself once a week when i do a 20% water change. am i cleaning it too often?
