Managed to get this pic today of him resting on a lotus leaf after his lunch, made me laugh.

I'm absolutely no expert but if it's only the loaches that are affected it might be that the new coaches introduced something into the tank that mainly affected that species. That is purely a guess based on the information you've given, hopefully someone else can provide more.
