It wouldn’t be a hands off approach. Of course I would trim the plant and / or remove it if things get out of control. I’ve trimmed roots on epithites before with only small impediments to their growth.

Curious why you think so. I see algae grow on their shells all the time, and a very small plant won’t affect their movement. Open to hearing your thoughts though.

ONE YEAR UPDATE! Haven't added water since July. The moss has completely taken over, and all the other plants are just becoming food for the snails. I occasionally throw more snails in there when I find them in my 10 gallon tank, but the population always thins and on average the jar can support...

He does move to come up for air, and about 3-4 hours ago he ate some pellets that I gave him. Seems like he has lost all energy to swim besides that
