I have the small gravel. I've read on several sites that small gravel is ok. Is this true?

I have a 29 gallon tank with 1 Dwarf gourami, 3 mollies, 5 platies, and 2 cory. I want to add something that swims at the bottom level and was wondering if kuhli loaches would work ok in my tank. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kim
