If you want to control the population, i found assassin snails really work. they feed on the common snails. this and if you only get a few then they wont completely wipe out the snails, just keep it down very well. some people havent had as much success as me, but i would really recommend them.

Holiday feeders are not good, i had two and came back, and by the looks of it the snails had got it all and the fish had none, all they did was pollute my water, i would no recommend

Technically you should always turn any electrical equipment you have in the water off before cleaning. This is just so you dont risk any electric shocks with your hands in the water. I always turn mine off mainly just so i dont have to move the filter or the heater about!

O.k so ammonia its caused by fish crap, decaying excess food, anything thats decomposing will affect the levels of nitrate, you need to watch the nitrate levels a . PH isnt such a big deal, unless you have sensetive fish like German Blue rams then you need to monitor EVERYTHING!

Those food blocks are all well and good, unless you have lots of snails! I went away and came back to find snails everywhere on the blocks and by the looks of it the fish hadnt got any at all! Better off not feeding them at all, and save you're money if you have snails!

Thats Amazing! I lost an Amano shrimp in a 60ltr for months and that was great when he appeared. So you must be ecstatic with the Asian! And hanging out with a fish 6 times the size and not being lunch WOW! That Fish is my hero!
