Didn't you just get him yesterday of something? He probably just needs to settle in some more. Give him some time. I have a betta that took 8 months to build a nest! But yours seems to be getting started, just slowly :) give him some time :D

No clown loaches. They need 100+ gallons for a good sized shoal :/ If I were you, I'd just go with a betta, or maybe a betta and a few pygmy corys. If you decide against that, the tropical chat can help you with stocking ideas.

I think it's just preference. A lot of females are just as colorful and pretty, if not more so that some males.

You'd probably be better off using a good quality pellet along with the bloodworms. I'm sure every betta would love to have an all-bloodworm diet, but I'm not sure that's exactly healthy.

Depending on what you put in it, all tanks will have less water than they say. My 20G only has 16 gallons of water in it because of plants, gravel, etc. That tank would probably be close to 6G when filled, maybe a little more or less depending on what was put into it. :)

IMO, a betta doesn't need a filter for that size tank (which is a good size, BTW). But you'd have to do a 50-100% water change once a week without a filter. Without a filter, you don't need to cycle, just keep up the water changes. LFS bettas are usually veiltails or crowntails. Whatever you...

I think that would probably be best if only done in a sorority of females, so the male can't single out one female. If you throw a male into a sorority tank, he's going to be so crazed with being in there, that he's not going to be able to pick out just one female to pick on.
