Thanks for your quick reply. The tank has been cycled since feb, steady readings since then.   I clean the sponges in tank water and I never clean the media, it never gets dirty as the sponges pre clean the water. It was weired, almost like a fine Vaseline. I was wondering if the anti fungus...

I have one of these in my tank but I still test with a liquid api kit once a week. It's more of an early warning as I'm walking past the tank.

Ideally you could do with a test kit so we can rule out water issues. You might find it difficult to get much help without one. There are many experienced fish enthusiasts on here so I'm sure you will get some help soon.

You might want to list the following: Tank volume Tank temp Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate pH Lighting Substrate Plants/ driftwood etc. It makes it a lot easier for someone to make an online diagnosis.

Are there any nitrates? If you have ammonia, no nitrites and no nitrates then your filter is not cycled. If you do have nitrates then disturbing the gravel may be upsetting things, releasing waste and decaying food, etc into the water, this could certainly cause an ammonia spike if you filter...

Think they come with jets. Spray bar available online for about £10.
