Thanks barney. Having priced up all the bits for t5 lighting its going to cost around £200 to set up 6 tubes and then I've got to build a hood for them all(its the reflectors and waterproof end caps that really cost!). An arcadia 2x150 halide(classica) is £232 so I may as well have ripple lines...

What do you think it doesn't like where it is now? Is it getting blasted by a power head, is it in a light deficient area? Has it been like this long? They do sometimes shrink down for a day or two and shed a layer of skin, especially if they have got 'dirty' like algea on them.Hows you water...

Are you using RO water to make up your WC water? If not tapwater may well have high nitrates and other nasties. As has been said get a more reliable test kit, as already suggested a salifert one is good. Then test everything, your tank water,your WC water,your RO water and your tapwater before...

TBH it looks quite happy in your pic to me. I believe if you cut it off you can glue it with superglue gel elsewhere(make sure you dry the surface of the bit you're going to glue and the surface of the rock you're glueing to with kitchen roll/paper towel),the stump should grow another head...
