just a quick question. How long does it take for the bacteria to start to die off when out of the water?
Example is like when changing the water, the HOB filters tend to drain most of the water back into the tank. it takes me about a hour to do a change,is there any cause for worry here?
i have had the tank up and running for only two weeks with fish in it. We are leaving next week for a little over a week. is there anything i can do or am i going to come home to dead fish? i put the fish in before finding this site , so shame on me i know. Not going on vacation isnt a option...
she didnt say to put it in the intake tube, rather underneath one of the media containers, which would be after the impeller. I dont see the potential of bubbles going down and against the flow of water to get into the impeller, but we will se. I am going to try it tonight and will post anything...
thanks waterdrop.
fish store owner has a degree in marine biology and has been keeping fish for 30 some odd years. She seems to be very knowledgeable but i wanted to see what the concensus on here was before i did it. She didnt make any promises on this like it was a miracle cure to cycle...
would it not provide more oxygen directly to the filter media thus encouraging a better place for the bacteria to grow? can you tell me why this wouldnt do any good or is it just your opinion?
I stopped at a local pet store yesterday and owner gave me some advice and i would like to know what you guys think. She said to help the nitrogen cycle along i could put air stones under the filter cartridges in the filter box and it would help provide extra oxygen to the bacteria growing on...
i am struggling with the whole filtration thing. i have done a bunch of reading but need a few days to let it soak in , lol.

i had a similar issue with a bio wheel being the wrong size a while back. the wheel that came with the used filter was too small, i cut a couple of small pieces of airline tubing and put them over the little tits coming off oth sides of the bio wheel, this lenghtened the bio wheel and it fit...

i dont know what a quid or a yonk are, but sounds like a great deal, lol ! I will check EBAY for sure .
thanks for all your help.
does anyone have any links to a good article on filtration and/or carbon use? I have spent alot of money to insure that i have enough water being moved per hour in my tank but want to make surei am doing it efficiently. whats the point of moving the water in the tank 10 times per hour if the...
