My nitrates are reading between 30 and 40, is this acceptable. The tank is about 12 months old. All other readings are zero and ph is 7.5. It a 90 litre planted tank with 6 neons 2 sparkling gouramis and 2 corydoras.

Still undecided about what to keep. Dwarf puffers just seem a bit too small. I do like the cockatoo apisto`s. My LFS has told me i could have a single peacock puffer in that tank which is something else for me to consider but i`m concerned it`ll outgrow the tank.

Gutted i was warming to the idea of puffers. I`ve now started warming to the idea of dwarf cichlids though. So same question again about filtration.... what size ecco pro should i invest in? And what substrate, i was thinking fine sand on a fertilizer base, pure laterite, for the plants.

Little fish dont really interest me. Been doing a bit of research into the puffers and am very keen. What size filter would I need, are they messy?
