New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

I do have a betta, platy, balloon belly mollie, and black skirt tetra. Other than the betta I honestly don't know genders. I actually also got 5 ghost shrimp and 3 snails to help with the cleaning. My tank has gravel and dragon tears instead of sand. I'm very broke. :( I just have a Whisper 10...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

Well my tank water stabilized so I got a few new fish for the tank on Tuesday night. I got a black and white balloon belly mollie, a black skirt tetra, a silver mollie, and a red phantom tetra (I think it was called). The silver mollie and the red tetra kept biting the bettas fins so I gave them...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

I have the API liquid test kit. The nitrates and nitrites seem to be stable at 0 ppm so far. I still have a little ammonia (0.25 ppm) but it is lower than the ammonia in my tap water (1.0 ppm) so I'm thinking MAYBE the tank is starting to stabilize. As for the plants, I have been watching them...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

Hm... I guess I'll just have to wait until they start dying and take them out. I am a total plant killer. If I pull them out they will die anyway. Yeah, the stress coat seems like a nice thing to keep around. I'm not sure if it's helping to fix the ammonia or if the tank is starting to build up...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

Which one? All of the ones I got were from the store in the aquatic plants section... Which one is it that is not aquatic? The two on the right are plastic (the taller ones). Also, I did notice that the Stress Coat says it gets rid of ammonia. Although I happened to remember a pet store near...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

I just tested my tap water to see if it could be contributing to the higher ammonia levels and it seems that the ammonia in my tap water is about 1.0 ppm which is exactly what the levels are in my tank right now. The pH in the tank is at about 7.4 while the pH for the tap water is above 8.8. I...

Thank you! :) Yeah, I knew you were only supposed to wash them in tank water. :) But it's good to know I was right. As for the water changes, if I lower the water level any more than I am I will have to turn the filter off. Should I do that?

He seems to be doing well. He seems to be enjoying doing some aerobic exercise by swimming around up and down and through the bubbles from the bubble wand. :) The platy is doing well also. I think my snail might be sick and/or dying so I guess I'm going to have to get him out of there. I got 4...

Thanks for the welcome! :) Yes, he does seem lethargic. But he is swimming around a good deal more. However neither he nor the platy that is in the tank have eaten since I got them yesterday. But I won't worry about that just yet, I know they can go several days without eating. I tested my...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

Well I suppose that with all the money I've already put into it I may as well add a bit more and get it working correctly instead of just trying to save money and make this drag out more and more which will probably cost more in the long run. :) After the cycling is complete how often should I...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

Yeah, I think that's the one the guy at the store recommended. I was just not sure if it was overpriced there. I'm going to a new aquarium only store today (was going to ask advice, but I think I'm good now so I'm just going to go look and get a test kit) and probably get one there. Thank you...

New To Fish And Need Some Advice/help

It's actually like a 10 inch bubble wand that spans the length of the tank (along the back wall) and does a wall of bubbles. But as long as it shouldn't hurt him I'll keep it going for aeration. And yeah, I wasn't going to add fish until it was ready for them. The lady I talked to (not the one...
