I did a 50% water change on Tuesday, tested my Ph that night and it was 6.4, tested it on Wednesday morning and it was 7.2, tested it on Wednesday night and it was 6.4, just tested it there and it's 7.2! What could be causing this? Tested my tap water and it's about 7.2ish.

Does anyone have any experience in keeping these fish? Thinking of getting a school of these for my tank with an angel (or pair of angels), are they nippy or difficult to keep?

I'll give that a go then :) So 8 black skirts, 6-8 corys and start with 5 young angels then rehome the other 3 if they pair up? Thanks for all your help :)

I would really like to keep black skirts, i've always loved those fish. My gravel should be ok for them then, it's pretty small and rounded. I have a 12" curved piece of bogwood on one side with alot of artificial plants behind it and on the other side I have built it up with slate to create...

Sorry I just meant natural coloured. So would 8 corys, 10 black skirts and 1 pair of angels be ok? Can the corys live on gravel or should I look for something to replace the corys with? Thanks.

36" long, 24" high, 16" wide. Ph is 7.2 and water is soft. Natural gravel as substrate.

Thanks for the reply :) How many could I keep in the 30 gal just now? Some are around 1" atm. Some people say to overstock malawis and others say I should only have a few, really confusing!

A friend wants rid of his malawi cichlids, all around 2" and said he'll give me them for free because he needs them gone asap. There are about 15 of them, ruti islands, yellow labs and kenyis. Would they be ok in my 3 foot, 30 gallon tank for a month or two until I buy a 55 gal? I have 25kg of...

He's moving his saltwater tank into his larger cichlid tank and getting rid of his cichlids, so I pinched that media! Ok i'll dose it back up today and check tomorrow morning and hopefully i'll get the same readings! Thanks

Only started cycling my tank on Sunday and heavily seeded it from a friends tank (sand, filter media, bucket of water with filter sponges sqeezed out into it) and after adding 4 ppm of ammonia 24 hours ago my results are ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 80.. is it really possible for it to cycle...
