I used these for years. If you have a deep tank, make sure you buy a powerful air pump. The deeper you go, the more pressure there is for the pump to superceed.
what would be the point of this?
Usually sponges that fit on the filter intake have a higher PPI (poer pre inch) than the coarse foam inside the filter. Which means that the foam inside the filter would be doing nothing besides looking ugly.
If you would like to possibly increase the flow, replace the hoses with vynal hoses and replace the output with a 90 degree fitting that has a long radius.
Then see what your flow rate is.
I have done lots of theory testing and measurments (although can't find them now) but I do have a picture that is worth a thousand words.
This vary well could be the cause of the lower filter flow rate verse the pump output.
I can see why they did this though. Trying to centralize the flow on...
3500LPH is the pump output at 921 GPH. This is not the filter output. The pump output could have been on a different container with different tubing or fittings. You want the filter output. Hagen uses the pump output to get people's attention.
2300 LPH is what you are looking for. This is what...
Gez you make it sound difficult
When ever I clean the filter I ALWAYS fill the canister with water before putting the lid back on. Never ever does the filter air lock. I also put the filter cover on at slight angles, never perfectly straight and never have an issue with a ...... wet...
Rare, I think that is the only case I have ever heard about. There must have been a crack in the housing some where to allow water to enter the motors enclosure. The motor is completly sealed off from water, obveously.
When that happends, ofcourse the motor will start to die out. Dodgy motor...
If this happends a while after the initial start, make sure the cover is sealed good. Check the hoses and fittings and make sure no air bubbles are around the intake
What the hell are you talking about? I have never in the 10+ years of owning my 304 and listening to reviews, heard about owners getting shocked by their filter.
Where did this come from and how can you get shocked?
AquaClear 110. I would never look at any other HOB filter. AquaClears are great filters and you can get them for $33.99 online.

I have a Fluval 304 and a Fluval Fx5. The 304 is over 7 years old. I think around 10 years old maybe. Still runs great and filters great. Same spunges as well. I use it for small particle filtration and it does wonders.
Issues (Due to age)
My 304 I have started to get leaks last year but thats...
