no, it's a brand new kit. expires in 2013. i don't understand what's going on, there's no way it's reading correctly. i'm going to do another water change tomorrow, and then i'll treat the tank.

i know that high ammonia levels are dangerous, but like i said..the readings seem to be incorrect. the liquid API test is reading at 8ppm. it's a 37g tank, and those are the only fish i have. i have a 40g carbon filter, but i have some extra media in there to keep the bacteria healthy through...

like i said, i've had high ammonia readings for a long time without any symptoms of ammonia poisoning or fish death. there is no ammonia in my tap water..it has a low pH (6.4-6.8). i did my regular water change yesterday. i have a 12 inch airstone that's always airating, and i do bi-weekly...

thanks...i do have an airstone..i dumped my carbon and i'm treating with API super ick liquid...i turned the temp up from 77 to 80. the meds say to treat again in 48 hours..and then wait another 48 hours, do a 25% water change, and filter w/ new carbon. any insight as to how quickly i should...

hey guys... i woke up this morning to find one of my male platys dead. i hadn't noticed before, but he had white fluffy stuff on his bottom fins. i checked out the rest of my fish, and i'm noticing white spots on a few of them. one of my corys has what looks like grains of salt on his fins...

yeah, i agree...he looks like a male. and, if he/she were pregnant, the bulge would be much lower...

ah, minor improvements. ammonia: .5ppm nitrite: somewhere between 0 and .25ppm nitrate: 10ppm fish are happier, i'm changing water every day...and i've got that wet soil tank cycling smell happening.

ok, so...new stats: ammonia: 1ppm (dropped from 2ppm on its own overnight) nitrite: .25ppm nitrate: 5ppm

sigh. 2ppm. i'm about to do a 2nd change to see if i can get it below 1. the platy w/ the clamped fins has recovered 100%..she's back to her normal self. the other is still hanging out in the bottom of the tank.
