Thank you! It's not that hard to vacuum the substrate to get rid of excess detritus, but once I plant the aquarium I shouldn't really have to worry about that much. But if you're asking if the vacuum will suck up the granules, no, it won't. :#

Why would there be algae under the substrate? Is it because aerobic respiration is taking place, giving them a better supply of oxygen? Then again, the chloroplasts would not be able to harness the light unless it was a very thin layer of substrate, correct? Is it just because of light...

Just do what you want. I was just trying to look out for the best interest of adding more fish in the future; with Corydoras Melini it limits what you can add a lot. Alot easier to goto the store and trade them in for Pandas. That's my two cents.
