the thermostat sensor will only detect the water temp of the water around it so say your tank is 4 foot or over it will only warm up one end while the other end remains cool. having heater each end means a constant level temp Dave

i used a electronic temp gauge to check each end of the tank plus the middle to help get a balance in temp. Dave

the eheim 2028 pro II, are nice and quite i have two in my tanks would not use anything else Dave
