A heater is essential....and with no filter, there would need to be water changes almost everyday, otherwise the water becomes toxic again very quickly. I’m amazed that this little fish has lasted so long! I cant imagine why anyone would think a Betta fish can live happily in a jar! My Betta...

If it was me....I would do that without hesitation...he needs a bigger tank...at least 20 litres....and it will have to be cycled. I had to put a Betta fish once into an uncycled tank as he had to be rescued from someone’s aquarium. With great care and attention it can be done...the fish was...

Yes...that’s what I was trying to say....that way, the fish is still in his own water....

If you get the WC you won’t need to wait for 24 hours, just 15 mins. The less you disturb him..the better he’ll be.

I’m trying not to bombard you with too much info...but if you can, try to minimise all water changes...it really does stress the fish. When you add fresh treated water...you should always do it very gradually

Me too!! I think when they advised you not to remove the fish, they would think that the fish was in a proper tank! I never remove my fish, but they’re in an aquarium! The water conditioner should just be mixed into the new water...not with the fish on it. That’s why I told you to lower the jar...

Re - use of the net - yes you’ll probably have to use the net to put it back in the jar, but it’s a far from Ideal situation for him. A sudden change of water will cause him a great deal of stress

Just checked...bottled water is better than tap water, so yes. It shouldn’t be stone cold though...I think your idea of the hot water bottle at the side of the tank is a good one for now.

Just looked it up..if you boil the water for 20 mins, this should dissolve all the chlorine’s and bad stuff. You should then be able to use the water as soon as it has cooled

If it were me, I wouldn’t use any product to rinse out the jar, just water. You will need to keep the water standing for at least 24 hours. If you desperately need to, boil the water first and let it cool to tepid. Just don’t use water straight from the tap. Is it possible for you to keep a hot...

1 litre bowl is best option..but try to use the water he is in now, and add to it...don’t want to stress him anymore. Good luck!

Do make sure that the water temperature is the same, and that, either you use a water conditioner, or leave the new water to stand for 24 hours. Your finger is a good indicator of temperature. It’s always advisable to acclimatise fish to new water, by using a polythene bag, or a cup, but, as I...

Yes...or gently put your hand over the net. I’m not sure about the sizes here, but you could perhaps use a cup? As long as you keep it gentle, it should work

If he’s responding well to everything you’ve done, and is getting his colour back, then leave him and continue to do it, but if it comes to it, it really isn’t difficult to transfer him into a larger container with the minimum of fuss. See how you go

Ok...if you think there’s still hope, I would seriously buy a light coloured/white household bucket as a temporary measure and put him in there with as little disturbance as possible. You can look after him better in there and he can’t see his reflection. Just remember that if you do this, leave...
