Would Tiger Barbs bother otto's? I liked the bristlenose catfish, but would it be too much in a 28 gallon with 8 TB's and 2 yoyo loaches?
By the way, thanks for the help!
I have what appears to be a very dark algae on my plants. When new growth comes out, it's nice and green for a few days, then it starts to grow on the new leaves. I clean my tank and don't overfeed. I cut out all the bad leaves and I recently tried an algae gone med (by tetra I believe) and...
I got a polkadot loach to rid my tank of snails. I haven't seen a snail in my tank since two days after putting him in there! Yes, they should be in groups, but he did great just by himself. I recently added two more (one died) so he has one friend. Worked awesome for me!! I even considered...
to add to the 3 I already have. All is going well with them. There was one fish that had some nipped fins and later died from either that or from having her first batch of fry. (I heard that can happen, not sure how true it is.) But otherwise I see no problems with them. I got more just to...
I had a female betta in with my platties and oto cats and she did great.
I have males and females in my tank and I hardly ever see fry because they get eaten! I figure it's good for the fish that like to hunt and have live food. My ratio is more like 1m/6f and 1m/4f But that's just how I...
Your old filter has probably dried out by now so any bacteria would be lost. While it's still cycling you should leave it. After the tank is cycled just make sure you don't do a big w/c and gravel cleaning at the same time as a filter change. I have a little bag of ceramic balls in my filter...
What about platties? They are a bit smaller than the mollies and come in different colors.
I also agree with the Betta advise, my friend kept a male betta in her tank with guppies, he caused no problems and lived just fine, but that isn't the norm in my experience anyway. My betta will peck...
I cycled my last 2 tanks with mature filters and some media from an older tank and had no problems with the original tank or the new one. The new tank cycled very quickly. I added 2 fish to my 55 gallon the same day I put the mature media in then (while also checking the levels) added more...
What type of fish is always a question you'll get here just out of curiosity. But some fish are more sensitive to higher ammonia readings. Ammonia isn't good for any fish, but some will suffer more quickly.
Good luck with your tank cycling! Please let us know how things go.

In my opinion bettas shouldn't be in anything that small. I had mine in a 5 gallon for about a year and he has since graduated into a 10 gallon. Betta's don't like that much water movement so any filter in a 1 gallon will be moving the water quite a bit.

Good luck!
