    Mixing Diamond tetra sizes?

Update here. The two new Diamonds in quarantine looked good so I transferred them to the main tank. They look happy! Their first reaction was "Whoah! so much space!" (10 gallon to 55 gallon) The two little ones are generally within 2-3 inches of each other and generally in the same area as the 5...

    Bronze Cory - toxic reaction?

Indeed! Thanks for the tip. I cranked up the ISO on my camera, dropped a couple algae wafers in and wasted a lot of digital film. The other interesting thing is that along with the SAEs and Bristlenose Plecos, the Pearl Gouramis really like algae wafers. (Apologies for the algae on the glass -...

    Mixing Diamond tetra sizes?

Thanks for all the replies. That's all good news. Q-tank is 10 gallons though it is filled to about 8 since there is no hood. It's bare bottom with a canister filter and lots of plants removed from the main tank and just floating around. They're looking good so far and starting to associate me...

    Mixing Diamond tetra sizes?

Good morning, I have a happy school of five nearly grown (I think) Diamond Tetras. Two are definitely males, one is definitely female and two might be on their way to being male. Their bodies are not quite as big as a US quarter but larger than a US nickel. I bought two more whose bodies are...

    Bronze Cory - toxic reaction?

Gasping at the surface would be a typical reaction to a toxin that makes it difficult to obtain oxygen or perhaps anything that makes them uncomfortable. The best description of this behavior is terrified - some kind of fear reaction causing them to hide. The two male Pearls, for example, are...

    Bronze Cory - toxic reaction?

The only other fish in the tank the Corys came from were to very small Siamese Algae Eaters. That's my quarantine tank and I usually fill it with water fdrom the main tank (or a mix of RO and filtered tap water.) In other words there is not likely to be anything in the water from the Q tank...

Let's Talk About Feeding Our Fish

This made me smile. I'm probably close to overfeeding and yet if I move near the tank, the fish all crowd around surface closest to me, begging for food. When I add food, the diamond tetras dart to the surface to grab food and then dart back down. They remind me of feeding Piranhas. The rest of...

I went to the fish store and asked for 2 siamese algae eaters, the person there gave me 2 CHINESE algae eaters instead...

I'll add one more point. Study the difference between Flying Fox and Siamese Algae Eaters. They look very similar and it would be easy to get the wrong one. Good luck!

    Bronze Cory - toxic reaction?

Good evening, A couple days ago I move two nearly adult Bronze Corys (C. aeneus) from a quarantine tank to my 55 gallon community tank. Catching them was pretty easy. The "slow net" technique works well on them. I placed them in a plastic bag with about a pint of tank water and set that in the...

    Which Corys Do You Have?

5 C. aeneus. That was the first Cory I kept over 60 years ago. I finally got past "The Great Bronze Cory Shortage of 2023." I bouight 3 relatively small ones in February of this year with the intent to buy a couple more a little later. A little later I started pestering my LFS for more of these...

    New to TFF

Good morning, I've had tropical fish off and on for over 60 years. At present I have a 55 gallon tank, fairly heavily planted, with the following: 1 old bristlenose plecos and two younger ones 4 Siamese algae eaters 3 little bronze corys (C. aeneus) 5 diamond tetras 4 yoyo loaches and a...
