Sag, java moss, they all work well. Not sure if I told you this, but hornwort is a great fast grower. As long as your fish ''keep it in check'' it's a winner both for the fish and the look.
What type of algae eater are you looking at? Anarchis, Green Cabomba, Hornwort, Sword Plant, are all good plants as well. Java Moss sounds great! I want to get some.
Hi! I woud recommend waiting for at least a week or two, just to get everything up and running. The reason for that is so you can avoid an ammonia/nitrogen spike. A 35 gallon is a nice tank; you can do a lot with it.
If you don't want to need to deal with algae, I'd suggest getting live plants...
Update: Dorothy is well accumated to the 5. Right now I'm doing a 50% water change. I will then add some aquarium salt and stress coat, and an anti-fungal.
