The first time I tried to catch a cichlid but didn't take anything out of the tank. An hour later, I had a ripped up tank and no fish. Tricky, very fast little fish. You'll save time and heartache by removing your rocks and plants.

Personally, if this is your first cichlid tank, you can't go wrong with kribs. They're easy spawners, fairly inexpensive and pretty easy to find (in CT at least).

Congrats! It won't be long. I have to admit though as I was reading through the thread that I have never heard of a krib laying eggs in multiple caves. I was jealous.

My kribs spawned, the fry hatched (about 75) and the all but 3 disappeared the second day. Now 4 days later at least 10 of them have reappeared in the cave! Did you add any rocks, gravel anything just before the deaths started. It sounds like your fish are being poisoned.

My krib tank has started growing green hair algae on the plants. The kribs pick at it but don't really put too much of a dent in it. Is there any fish that will eat this stuff?

My kribs have been rather peaceful within a community tank, but have gone wild when I put in live food. I'd be concerned for the fry. :(

My male krib is shaking violently and swimming backwards in front of the female. Mating ritual I hope? :huh:
