    Fungal Infection Keeps Coming Back

Hi everyone, I am not a regular poster but I have a real problem with my red wag platy who is displaying a fungal infection for the 4th time since October. I have spoken to my LFS (usually pretty good with their advice and help) but symptoms have returned again. Here are our details below...

Have I Freaked My Fish Out?

Any idea on the Sex of your 2 Platies? Hi, from the images I've seen on this site I think that my red wag is female and my mickey mouse is male. You need to figure out how to sex them for sure: males have gonopodiums, females have anal fins. It is recommended that one keeps two females per...

Have I Freaked My Fish Out?

Thanks, that's a relief. I'm hoping it's nothing worse than a bit of stress from their first water change with me. I'm leaving them in peace as much as possible and hope that they come round. Thanks for your help. X

Have I Freaked My Fish Out?

Hi, from the images I've seen on this site I think that my red wag is female and my mickey mouse is male. X Hi, I did test the tap water and it was 0 for ammonia. I'm very confused..... Hi Kittykat, How do I test for chloramine? I used water conditioner, could this still be a...

Have I Freaked My Fish Out?

Hi everyone, Really hope you can help with this one as I'm quite concerned about my 2 platys. Got the fish just over 2 weeks ago after a fishless cycle and they settled in really quickly, feeding well and swimming around a lot. I've kept a close eye on the water and have tested every 2-3 days...

    Unexplained Ammonia Reading

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Tests are all fine again so will wait until weekend before adding new fish assuming water is still ok. Hopefully it was just a glitch. GG x

    Unexplained Ammonia Reading

Well, we are none the wiser here as tested later on Saturday and again on Sunday and ammonia is still 0, nitrite 0 & nitrate 10. Fish seem happy and are feeding, swimming about as normal so no idea what happened to give me the 0.25 ammonia result. Will keep testing this week until I'm sure all...

    Unexplained Ammonia Reading

Thank you. Just about to test the new water in the bucket which has just been treated. Tank water, tap water and newly treated water all 0 for ammonia so no idea where my earlier reading came from. Will keep a close eye on things. Thank you.

    Unexplained Ammonia Reading

I have a bucket that is only used for fish stuff (just bought it when we got the fish 2 weeks ago) and a plastic jug to transfer the water from bucket to tank. I do store the gravel cleaner, net, etc in the bucket though.

    Unexplained Ammonia Reading

Thank you. Just tested tap water and it's 0 for ammonia. Could I have tested too soon after water change and gravel vac?

    Question Re Newly Cycled Tank

Thanks. I'm a bit paranoid as I've never kept fish before so it's great to hear from your guys on here. I do have some real plants in there but didn't realist that they helped quite so much so that's cool. I'll keep testing..... GG x

    Question Re Newly Cycled Tank

Hi everyone, I have a newly cycled tank and have added my first 2 fish at the weekend (1 red wag platy and 1 Mickey mouse platy) and they seem to be settling in quite well. I am really looking for a little reassurance from you more experienced fish keepers so does this sound ok to you: Fish...
