My nitrates read between 40 and 80.. Its hard to see a big difference between the 2. but i have done 15-20% water changes every other day for the past week.. but the nitrates don't seem do go below 40. what should i do to lower them? I know that 40-80 isn't very high but i want to feel likes its...

Im just curious whats more dangerous to the fish... a little ammonia or a high nitrate??

My tanks are fine now but i was just wondering if in the future they get to to high, what would be the best way to get them back to normal? Like by simply doing water changes or adding supplements that API tell you to use.

I dont need to find the first one any more. I found it, it is called Hemichromis elongatus or 5 star general cichlid.

How often should the filter cartridges be changed?

theres not really visible stripes on it. And the fins are blackish with white tips

heres the second fish. Once ogain the picture lacks color but its more blue and the bottom of the fish is a darker blue than the top.

yea its a pretty bad pic.. but its more yellowish and has red on its stomach.. picture doesnt really show the color to well.
