My recently re-scaped Juwel Rio 180. My first entry into TOTM!

I have 6 in mine and they always hide. They sometimes poke their heads out at feeding time but other than that I hardly ever see them. Maybe as they get older they just get lazy! lol

I can confirm Dwarf Chain Loaches are good tankmates with Cories but as of yet I haven't seen them go near any of the snails in my tank. Gav

The hairy algae is BBA(black beard alage). Apparantly overdosing with Seachem Flourish Excel is supposed to help reduce it but you would need to increase aeration as it reduces the amount of oxygen in the water. Hi Dan, I have a Juwel Rio 180 and I currently have a Daylight and a Colour tube. My lights are T5 so depending on how old your light unit is, yours maybe T8 or T5. I have always gone for the official Juwel ones so not sure if there are any other brands which would be suitable. Gav

They have Athena. It's called a photometer and I have one. You sample the water first and it takes a reading. Then you add the chemicals and it compares the 2 and tells you the answer in a digital readout which you can store. It's very accurate but expensive. Gav

Started off with a liquid test kit but now use a photometer which is extremely accurate, just very expensive! Never used strips myself tho.
