I keep 30+ Mbuna in a Rio 180 and have no problems at all. In fact its better to overstock to keep the focus of aggressive fish away from one singular fish constantly. just be sure to filter as much as possible.

It's physically IMPOSSIBLE to over-filter. Just make sure the output flow is sufficiently even across the interior of the tank otherwise you will end up with fish stuck in one corner or against a rock because the current holds them there.

When stocking cichlids its usually a good idea to "overstock" as it minimises aggression. However, before going down this route you will want to consider buying a decent extenal filter or two for your tank to ensure the water is WELL filtered. I would estimate the correct amount of cichlids...

keep a close eye on the Crabro's Some turn out to be incredibly violent towards literally anything sharing a tank with them.

I would take them off your hands but I'm not sure these guys would be any good in a cichlid tank. Probably get ripped to bits.

The way I see it, If you have the time to look after your tank properly, you should never need UV.

Size of tank and fish size is an important factor. When I walk in and see a display tank, what makes me go wow is the size of the tank (gotta be huge) and the fish have to be premium colour and size. Frisbie aquatics near my place are cichlid specialists. That is their display tank.

If I was rich enough, I'd buy lake malawi, have it raised above the earth and surrounded by glass. Then I'd fly the whole thing back to the uk and attach it to the east coast. :P
