    Problem With Fishless Cycle

Hello scouse_andy. The very same thing happened to me directly after the water change in my fishless cycle. Unfortunately for me though i bought fish just after changing the water ( i didnt test it - just figured the bacteria wouldnt die in that short amount of time). I wouldnt get too...

    Harlequins, Guppies, Corys

Hiya. I know someone who is trying to get rid of one of his tanks (he has about 4) and needs a home for a group of guppies. I just wondered if guppies would get on ok with my harlequins and corys (when i get them). Although i havnt seen them the bloke reckons they are about an inch long. My...

    How To Convert ('c - 'f)

You could cut out the middle part by just multiplying by 1.8. e.g. °F = ( °C × 1.8 ) + 32 I can understand that the way you show it would be a heck of a lot easier to do without a calculator though. Good for a quick in your head calculation.

    My Choice Of Fish

Just an update. I went to LFS and I got the Harlequins (6 of them). The bloke who served me wouldn't let me have any more fish - plus i couldnt find any Panda corys or sparkling gouramies. He'd never heard of doing a fishless cycle by adding ammonia, and he reccommened changing the water...

    New Fish

I shall be doing the daily 20% water change. Thanks for the advice. Is amazing how i maneaged to kill my bacteria off that easily though! I didnt even take the media out of the plastic holders, i just kind of shook them in the water. On a good note, all my fish are still alive, and look...

    New Fish

OK heres my dissapointing test results for this morning. I think somehow my nitritre eating bacteria has died as its not moved: Amonia 0 Nitrite 4.5-5 Nitrate 40-50 I think i may need to cycle my tank again, but this time WITH fish. How annoying! Frost

    New Fish

At least 5ppm was added every day, but at some points when i was going away for 2 days i'd put in 50 drops instead of the 35(for 5ppm) probably making it to around 7-8ppm. It seemed the bacteria was perfect until i changed the water. It could remove 5ppm ammonia from the water in about 4 hours...

    New Fish

Yes, i have an internal filter. So when i did my water change i siphoned some water out into a bucket and put all my filter media in that while i did the rest of my 90% water change. The media would have been in the bucket for around 30-40mins maximum and in that time I did actually remove...

    New Fish

I did add more ammonia after my water change as suggested in one of my other posts, but only up to what should have been 2.5ppm (15drops) (35 normally takes it to 4.5-5ppm). I've just done a test again and its looking dire! Ammonia 0 Nitrite 5 (could be off the chart) Nitrate 40-60ish What...

    New Fish

Yep, fully dechlorinated all my water. Just left my fish into the tank, they seem to be swimming round in a shoal but all squashed up into one corner of my tank. I'm hoping that when i test the water again later on tonight i'll get better readings. Thanks for replying.

    New Fish

It has been fully cycled for over a week. Do you mean i should have waited a week after my water change?

    New Fish

Hello. Just been to my LFS to get my fish because my tank is fully cycled (been processing 5ppm of amonia to 0ammonia and nitrite in about 4 hours). Before i went to the fish store i did a 90% water change to get rid of my 40ppm nitrates, ive just got back after buying my fish and it appears...

    My Choice Of Fish

Sounds good, do you mean buy 3/4 first and let them settle - then buy some more at a later date? Or do you mean i could get more in the first place? Are all the numbers for my fish about right? Or should i have more/less of any? Cheers
