i've had experience with cories and have lost some to the same symptoms you have listed. Unfortunatly I have not been able to diagnose what it is. Cories can be very sensitive to their environment but 20 ppm of Nitrate isn't that high. I don't think its nitrate poisening. We aren't supposed to...

If you could give us a picture that would help but from what your describing it sounds like algae growth. I've seen things kinda like it in certain pet stores.

I would go with Platy's they are great! I've had a bunch of them and I think they are awesome!

Well really in order for your tank to be cycled Nitrates should be around 20 ppm. You definatly need to get a power filter running in that tank...

Well firstly you need to test the water. We gotta know what the readings are because that will help you and us rule out different diseases. Your tank is also overstocked which could cause a problem and the reason I say that is because Bala Sharks can get to 18 inches. Those silver dollars...
