Are the filter media usually pricey with cannister filters?

I used to have a hang on back filter as well as an underwater sponge filter for my aquarium. The cannisters are so expensive but I figured I would ask about those.

Are these cannister filters more effective than the external ones that attach on the outside of the tank? Do you still need an underwater filter with them? They're expensive but curious if it's a better purchase. Are there filter cartridges that need changing?

I'm thinking about eventually taking the plunge (no pun intended) and getting a tank of 90 gallons or larger. It seems that I can't find filters for tanks that size in local stores or on many websites. Even on Amazon it seems like a pain. Are there any sites you all use?

I never did have mine start breeding. How many usually tend to pair off in a group?

Will they fight otherwise? I remember having three when I had my 65 gallon and while I don't remember aggression but still curious what is an ideal school size.

How many angelfish can be kept in a group? I have heard various sources saying odd numbers or a pair, curious what your experiences are.

I had cories breed once. I had three fish for the longest time and then one day during feeding time a smaller, fourth one bellied up for some food.

Hi, I have been out of the aquarium hobby due to moving to a new place that didn't have enough room for my 65 gallon. I'm hoping to get back into the hobby within the next year and so am going to start visiting the site for discussions.
