A Chemical Free Way Of Getting Rid Of Snails?

yeah I tried to leave a few in there. Using bait is much easier than trying to fish them out with a net individually. Next time I will try your lettuce leaf method though. Thanks.

A Chemical Free Way Of Getting Rid Of Snails?

I didn't really realise how many snails were in my tank until I returned from my holiday last week. I had left a "tetra" feeding block in the tank while I was away and when I returned it was covered with snails! I fished the block out removed all of the snails from it and put it back in the...

    Looking After My Plants

I have no idea what type of plants they are, I have one thats like thick weed and grows in long strands that look like christmas tree branches and then one with a central stalk and green and pink long thin leaves. I thought that they were aquatic plants but perhaps the are not, how would I know?

    Looking After My Plants

Hi All My plants never seem to last very long in my tank. They tend to just fall apart and die. I currently add nothing to te water that is specifically for plants. Would appreciate any advice on how to keep my aquarium plants alive. Thanks Emma

A creepy critter in my tank!

Can somebody who knows about disgusting little unwanted creatures pin a topic to help us to identify these things when we get them?

A creepy critter in my tank!

Oh my god that is disgusting!!! Thats worse than the leeches I ended up with (although the leeches were harder to get rid of and the treatment also killed all of my fish). I think they came in on plants also!!! How should we be cleaning plants before adding to tank? Just in a bit of tank...

So Much Trouble - Where To Start!

Gosh no I didn't expect it to be instant but I did think that if the bacteria was live then it would have made a significant dent in the reading. (even thought the advice on the fridge it was sold in suggested that it was instant I did not expect it). I'm happy to wait as long as it takes (as...

So Much Trouble - Where To Start!

I can confirm that the bacteria I bought does not work well enough on it's own. I put amonia in last night to 6ppm and it is still at 6ppm (well a tiny bit lower but not down to the next colour yet!) now. To anyone thinking that this is a way of shortening cycle time I would say not to bother...

So Much Trouble - Where To Start!

Hi all I have cleaned out my tank as advised. Got new gravel rather than trying to clean the old stuff. Got it all set up. They don't stock amonia in either of my LFS shops, where else could I get this from. Instead they sold me some fresh bacteria out of the fridge which I have put in the...

So Much Trouble - Where To Start!

Thankyou both for all of this - you are brilliant. Underwurlde - thanks for working out how many fish I am allowed, in the past I have been overstocked (by a fair bit by the sounds of things) it's easy to get over - excited when you see the pretty fish in the shop but this time round I am...

So Much Trouble - Where To Start!

Thanks. I do know a bit about the cycling process (but you can never know too much). I will start by asking: Should I remove and clean everything from the tank? and what with before I start my fishless cycle or should I try to retain some ofthe good bacteria (as the stats have recovered...

So Much Trouble - Where To Start!

I accept that this is not really an emergency anymore as my fish are sadly now all dead. However Advice for the next time round would be great. My tank has been up and running for about a year. I do weekly changes of 25-30%. I test my water 2x per week and until the problems I am about to...
