thanks for the advice, it turned out that it wasnt a bag nut some bag like material bonded to a plastic frame filled with carbon. i used scissors to cut off as much of the bag like material as i would and put that at the bottom, then I put in the sponge, then the carbon from the new filter then...
so the filter that came with my tank has died...i think it was a hagen elite 10...Im going to replace it with an aquaclear 20 but i dont want to lose all my good bacteria...the problem is that the pieces from the elite 10 dont fit in the AC at all so i see no way of transferring media.... i took...
When I left the tank was mid cycle ammounia was .25 Nitrite was .25 Nitrate was 10. It's a 10 gal tank with 2 platys 2 danios and formerly a guppy. When i came back i removed the dead guppy and the feeder tab. water states were crazy like 10-2-20 i immediatly did i 60% water change waited an...
And while i did have in a "Tetra Vacation" feeder my last guppy died. however that's not my concern. my concern is that the water in the tank is WHITE i'm not sure if this is from the feeder directly, from the effect of having that much food in there (bacteria bloom) or if it's part of...
Good news, the 7th Danio is up and swimming with the other three now. and yes, the fish were properly acclimated, I let them float in their bag for quite a while and did partial water transfers into the beg to help them get used to the new water chemistry. Also, yes the fish were in for about...
I just got home from PetCo, they tested my water and found almost no ammonia and no nitrites....what in the heck? I watched her do it so i know shes not lying. So i must be still early in the ammo stage...but if that's the case why on earth did all those fish suddenly die?
might be worth mentioning that before i did the water change I took a sample of water to have it tested at PetCo...not the best place in the world but free.
I have a liquid ammo test kit, and yes I always use dechlorinator....i just cant figure out what killed 6 fish in like 10 hours. also i just now changed about 30% of the water.
0ppm is the fist scale on my test kit followed by .25 the reading i just took was waaaaaaaaaay lower than .25 but wasn't quite pure yellow so it must have been higher than 0ppm maybe around .1. that would be my guess. anyway i have zero access to cycled media so that's a problem. i originally...
So about two weeks ago I set up my US 10 gallon tank with gravel, external filter bubble stone, fake plants, lights and heater. Being completely new to the hobby I had no idea about cycling and the pet store conveniently didn't tell me anything about it, but i guess why would they. at any rate...
