Has anyone used this soil before? what did you think of it?  Am going to use the dinosaur dung fertiliser, injected CO2 through liquid and flourish liquid ferts. I am going to be using LEDS lights? Would this be enough/necessary? or too much? Not sure which plants yet but i am going definetly...

You can use ceramic noodles. http://store.cityfarmers.com.au/aqua-one-bionood-ceramic-noodles-600g.html?___store=default.   I prefer to only use carbon when I have finished healing a sick fish and put it in the filter to get rid of any chemicals left over.

The banana leaves have done fine, tannined the water nicely. Have just added some dead magnolia leaves so will see how they go in the morning. Will post the results.

  The otos also won't rip out your plants as well. They should be kept in a small group as they are fairly shy.

i recommend otocinclus. Plecos will get too big the tank.

  Have been told on another forum that lilly pilly leaves are safe, (i call them chinese apples) do you think they would be?

I have put in a dried banana stem with the shreaded leaves on them into the aquarium.

Mine used to sit inside a terracotta pot and I fed him frozen blood worms that came in block form. I just held it in front of the pot and he ripped the worms off and ate them. 

  What about bouaganvilliea? have read somewhere where someone has used it. but what is your opinion?

  i read that if you soak the leaves until you can't see any film or yellowing then they will be fine.

    I am wanting to fill some of the bottom of my aquarium with leaves because the laetacara curviceps i recently bought live in the leafy substrate in the wild. Would I be able to use dead gum tree leaves?

I used pool filtration sand, sinks really well. I wouldn't mix it in with the gravel. You can get this sand from stores like clark rubber.
