    Firemouth Compatability

I introduced 2 firemouth and 2 rainbow (juveniles) at the same time because both types of cichlids are considered to be "less aggressive". I already had a tank with established rummynose (15), bolivian rams (5) and red minor tetras (6)  along with a couple bottom feeders in my 75 gallon...

Incredibly Strange Behaviourfiremouth Breeding Activity Or Normal?

My firemouths dig constantly. The big one dug a hole under the amazon and bogwood right down to the glass. The smaller one was digging and rubbing itself into the sand yesterday evening while the big one expanded its burrow. I have had them for nearly a year and there has been no breeding...

    Rainbow Cichlid Safe Plants?

My rainbows have stopped eating all food I give them and only eat the plants (sword and hygro). This is strange because they used to eat food very well.

    Firemouths Bullying

My Firemouths pretty much leave my Rams alone. They have been in the tank for nine months now - the FMs since they were juvi's - and while there was some food competition at first everything has settled out nicely. Now if only the FMs would leave my Rainbows alone...

    Normal Behaviour?

My male Bolivian Ram is also doing this in the substrate whenever the female comes near. Funny thing is there is no breeding rock near. I saw them doing this a couple weeks ago but no eggs resulted.

    Rams

I have had my Bolivian Rams breed, however I do not intentionally breed them. Maybe there is something I can help you with.

    Bolivian Ram Juvenile Laying Eggs

Imagine my surprise yesterday evening when I saw a new cluster of eggs on a smooth flat rock in a different part of my tank. Different because previously my mated ram pair laid their eggs at the opposite end of the tank on a different flat rock. And surprise because this wasn't my mated pair...

    Bolivian Rams Breeding!

I returned home from work on Wednesday and discovered that the eggs were no longer in the hole the parents had placed them, but in another excavated hole a few inches away. Over the next few days the parents continued to move their brood around, obviously in an effort to confuse predators...

    Bolivian Rams Breeding!

I added three Bolivian rams to my community tank about four weeks ago. Two of them paired up instantly and began hanging around each other. On Saturday I noticed them coming out of a rock cave (wink wink), then settle under the plants in the corner of the tank. Later in the day I noticed they...

    Bolivan Rams On Sat

What exactly is the "vent"? I don't think I have heard this term before.

    Foggy Water Won't Clear

I have plants, and I have my lights on a timer already. I will reduce the amount of 'on' time and do some more water changes to see if that helps. Thanks!

    Foggy Water Won't Clear

Okay I took some water out and it does look like there is a pale green tinge to it. What is the best way to clear this up? Complete darkness for a couple of days? My lighting schedule right now is 5 on, 2 off then 5 on.

    Foggy Water Won't Clear

Ammonia and nitrite readings are both zero. I am pretty sure the water is not green, although if you look in the tank from the end it looks green because of the huge sword. Stocking is light right now. I have 15 rummys, 6 julii corys, two skirt tetras, two flying foxes, a CAE and a bamboo...

    Foggy Water Won't Clear

I have a 72 gallon freshwater community that has had foggy water for the past few weeks. It appears to be a bacteria bloom but I can't figure out what is causing it. I do 40% water changes with substrate siphon weekly, check the filter media for foreign particles occasionally (dumped the water...

A To Z Of Tropical Fish Diseases

Nevermind, Frank's dead. I guess no one patrols this thread. Anyway, looks like Frank must have run into a rock in the dark or something. Eventually the white spot went away but so did Frank's lips. In the end he couldn't eat and died. RIP Frank.
